White House Releases Executive Order on the Need to Increase the Domestic Production of Critical Minerals and Reduce America’s Reliance on Chinese Supply Chains

10/2/2020

Washington D.C. -- J. A. Green & Company (“J. A. Green & Co.” or the “Company”) is pleased by the White House’s recent Executive Order (“EO”) detailing the need to reduce America’s reliance on Chinese supply chains for critical minerals.

The EO requires the Department of Interior and other federal agencies to recommend trade actions, such as tariffs or quotas, in the next 60 days.

The EO also encourages agencies to consider additional funding for mining projects through one of the following legislative vehicles: Title XVII of the Energy Policy Act of 2005; the Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing program; or Section 306 of EO 13603.

It also requires federal agencies to provide reports on their efforts to increase the domestic production of critical minerals.

“The White House is taking a needed step to enhance America’s domestic supply chain of critical minerals,” said Jeff Green, President of J. A. Green & Co. “For too long, the U.S. has relied on unreliable foreign sources, particularly in China, for critical minerals that power many of the technologies supporting our health care systems and military. Overt foreign control of critical mineral supply chains creates pronounced national security risks that will only become more severe in the future if the status quo remains.”

The White House’s acknowledgment of the vulnerable rare earths supply chain is a notable achievement for J. A. Green & Company, which has been advocating for American businesses since 2007.

The EO may be found on the White House’s website:
